At first, it watched me intently from behind the wall, almost as if it were on guard, which gave me a slightly mysterious impression. But we quickly became friendly, and by the time I was leaving, it was sleeping right beside me. I painted a cat that my family used to have when I was little. She was a female cat, and she was very gentle and kind. When she slept, she always lay on her back, showing her white belly with a little bit of light brown fur mixed in. Whenever I saw her sleeping like that, I would run over and gently rub her tummy—I still remember that really well. Sometimes I would quietly sketch her while she was asleep. She’s no longer with us now, but whenever I look at those sketches, I can still picture her sleeping with that soft, peaceful expression on her face.
