Most of my sketches and compositional studies come from places I encounter while walking through the city—locations I come across and then pass by. It is the impression of those brief encounters that gives me the energy to create.
At the same time, there are a few places I return to again and again. This work is based on a view from a gently sloped, well-kept grassy embankment, looking across to buildings on the opposite side. It is a place where the wind moves freely; although the area is paved, few people come here.
Because of that, I often spend time there, quietly making sketches and studies at a slow pace. This piece is based on one of those drawings.
While faint sounds of the city echo in the distance, I can simply face the act of drawing without thinking—making it one of those rare and valuable places for me.
